A Fresh Start

Sitting here at the starting line of another year I think back on the year that passed. It went by fast, I mean like crazy fast, like go straight past Go and don't even wait for the R200 kind of fast. Apart from going by in a flash this past year has been jam packed with work related things. For me it marks my first time being involved with a large project on the web.

I have the priviledge of being part of an awesome group of people trying to make the local (and international) music scene better by giving lesser known artists exposure to fans. Check it out by visiting boom.fm. We recently released version 2 of the site with lots of improvements and a fresh UX direction. I’ll write another article about that process where I’ll share some of my thoughts. As a consequence of this work I’ve learned a great deal about thinking/designing and building for the web and even though there’s still so much for me to learn I feel like this was just what I needed.

It’s true what they say about learning by doing. The things I’ve learned this year would never have been possible if it wasn’t for the fact that we were solving real problems and thinking about how to approach features for real users. In this case constraints really did drive innovative solutions. I’m looking forward to 2012 and the new challenges it will bring.

A New Look

With a new year comes a new look. Previous version of this site was merely a placeholder for a little info about me and links to social profiles. I felt it was finally time to have a place where I can write longer articles if I felt like it and show off some work every now and then. I decided not to focus too much on visual design and let the content speak with clear typography. I did give it some responsive love like the cool kids are doing these days. The journal is still using a standard tumblr theme which isn’t responsive. When I get some time I’ll convert that too. If you are interested in more technical details check out the about section.

Here’s to 2012. Here’s to caring about our craft and making things with more love.
